In Central Florida, we’re familiar with multi-generational living
and housing senior citizens. The Sunshine State is a popular destination
for aging persons, and today we remind you that the United States Consumer
Product Safety Commission has issued warnings for how to safely use bed
rails for senior adults. At
Legally Pink Law, PLLC we take safety seriously!
Portable bed rails contributed to 155 deaths from 2003 to 2013, and 90%
of those victims were over the age of 6o. Hospital bed rails contributed
to 531 deaths between 1985 and 2013, with a majority of those victims
being elderly and frail as well.
Bed rails should only be used in certain circumstances and for some patients.
Rails should be installed properly and checked daily for functionality
and fit. Ill-fitting rails that have slipped can cause gaps that allow
patients to become stuck and entrapped.
If you feel that a loved one has suffered because of a product defect with
a bed rail or due to negligence of a caregiver in monitoring bed rail
functionality, contact Carolyn Salzmann, your Orlando product liability
attorney today!
